About This Quote

Children need to be taught big truths that they will grow into. They cannot be taught light explanations that they will grow out of. A light explanation is a very brief answer to a question. However, a big truth is a much longer answer to a question.

For example, if a child is asked, “What do you want for Christmas?” They will respond quickly with a light explanation such as, “A bike.” Also, if the child were asked how to build a bike, they would respond with an even shorter explanation such as, “Take two sticks and put them together.” These explanations are appropriate for children to learn but won’t help them in their adulthood. If instead, the child was taught the truth about bikes, they would respond with something like this: “A bike is made by taking an old wheel and putting it on top of another wheel.” This is the same thing but it’s more detailed and longer. It is because of this that children need to be taught big truths rather than light explanations that they will grow into.
